Dance Teacher Hub Retreat 2016

On a beautiful, sunny, Sunday morning, I jumped in my car and drove up to Hitchn ready for the Dance Teacher Hub retreat. The schedule for the day was jammed back full of dance celeb speakers, workshops and plenty of time for networking as well.

Our first speaker was Clint Slater from all the way down under. This was the second time I've met Clint and he is full of passion about dance and growing your student numbers to be the best dance school you can be. If you have never heard of him or Dance Studio Owners Association do check it out here or pop over to iTunes and subscribe to the Studio Success Formula podcast.

Claire O'Connor, founder of babyballet, was up next. She gave a very moving talk about her journey and what being successful means to her. We also got a little glimmer into what the future holds for babyballet. To find out more or you nearest class check out their website.

Pineapple Performing Arts founder, Maggie Patterson then gave a talk about her journey and how the school has grown from strength to strength. She also spoke about all the events her children and teachers take part in, from Westend workshops, summer schools, outreach programmes for schools in deprived areas and a ton more. Take a look at what they do here.

Que the cute factor when 6 members of Disco Duck took to the stage to show us what they get up to in their weekly classes. The license to run your own Disco Duck classes, as well as where to find them and more information can be found at-www.disco-duck.co.uk

Can you Dance? are events held across the UK. I have never been but will sure be booking a ticket for next year after listening to Matt Flint and Tom Shilcock speak. The Guys met on season 2 of 'So you think you can Dance'. They then created the Can you Dance events which feature a whole host of amazing dancers, teachers and choreographers who teach master classes in a range of styles. The days topped off with an amazing showcase. Dates for 2016 are nearly finished but keep an eye out for dates in 2017 as the guys want to come back even bigger and better than this year.

If you've never seen him Ryan Jenkins is one of the funniest, dramatic and flamboyant people you could ever meet. He was our last speaker of the day giving a talk on his company iD Dance. He has created a contemporary syllabus which students can take exams in. One important element has been added 'performance skills' not only teaching children and young adults to do well in a dance class environment but for those all-important life skills like making eye contact in a job interview or projecting when speaking in public. Along with Matt Walker (who gave a great Street Dance Talk) and some other amazing street dancers, they have also come up with a Street Syllabus which will launch in the UK soon. Check it out here- www.id-dance.co.uk

I'd highly recommend going along to the next one if you can but in the meantime check out Dance Teacher hub online- www.danceteacherhub.co.uk or join their Facebook page exclusively for teachers!
