New Year, New You?
It's a brand new year. I'm still not quite sure where 2016 went to be honest but here is 2017 in all it's glory. Have you made a new years resolution? What is it? Go on.... tell. OK you don't have to. Here's a few you could make in case you're lacking in ideas- Learn a new ballet bun I love this one from makeup.com. I'm not great with hair but this is quite simple and looks beautiful. Take care of your feet As a dancer you are nearly always on your feet. It's no wonder

Shoes
For years dancers and dance teachers have had the same regular shoes for performances. Picture this, a hard hitting, military style dance, fantastic camouflage costume, heavy, dark make up and a bog standard jazz shoe-burgh. Thanks to manufactures we have some new options. Check out the Bloch 'Millilitre'. A fantastic light split sole dance boot with inner leg zip for quick changes. It looks heavy but is brilliant to dance in. I wear mine ALL the time- no lie. Really co

What you need for ballet....
As an adult most classes won't have a set uniform. For your first class, if you don't want to spend out a small fortune, its fine to wear something comfortable, leggings and a t shirt work great as your teacher can still see your line and form. However, when you decide you want to carry on and make this a hobby or more, you may want to buy some bits so you feel the part and can move with no restrictions. Dancer's Health
Any sport that uses your body means you want to keep it in tip top condition but trying to squeeze in rest, eating healthy and time for stretching can be chaos in our busy lives. Fail to prepare and prepare to fail We know the feeling, you've just finished hours of classes and your stomach makes that 'I need food NOW' noise. You haven't got anything so pop into the local takeaway to grab something on the way home, filling up on carbs then going to sleep. Then waking up in t

Tights, Tights, Tights
Argh!! I snagged my ballet tights! Shoot! - We've all been there! Have you thought about what you could do with your tights rather than just throwing them in the nearest bin on the way out of class? The easiest and simplest thing to do is to recycle. If it's a small hole or above the knee why not wear them as regular tights with a dress? Or double them up! Wearing two pairs will not only keep you extra toasty but holes or runs are rarely in the same place meaning you won

How do I choose the right Dance School?
The first question to ask yourself, or if old enough the student attending, is what you want to get out of going to dance class.? Do you want a fun class to make some friends and keep a little healthy or is this going to be a career you want to pursue? There are schools for both categories and plenty in between. If you are looking into dance as a career expect to be doing a number hours per week in a few different styles. For a general dancer this would properly be Ballet,

The Elves and the Shoemakers
Working at Pink Pointes and being a supplier of Freed of London, I was asked if I would like a tour of their East London factory and of course I jumped at the chance! What an opportunity! The tour around the pointe shoe part of the factory took about an hour. In this time we got to see the cutting room where the raw materials are processed into their intended shape ready for the makers to turn into beautiful pointe shoes. Layers and layers of material are slowly build up u
